Restomod muscle cars are all about blending classic style with modern performance and that’s exactly what this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Restomod appears to offer. Its roster of equipment checks all the contemporary boxes, too, from the LS3 engine and Tremec five-speed transmission to Detroit Speed front and rear coilovers, rack-and-pinion steering, and wide rubber with mini-tubs. The car was converted to a two-seater, with a custom enclosure behind the front seats that offers storage and houses part of the sound system. There’s also a modern air conditioning system and other updated features. The selling dealer reports the car was built by the previous owner and virtually every aspect of it appears to have been updated.

POWERTRAIN

Under this Camaro’s cowl induction hood, according to the seller, is a 6.2-liter LS3 OHV V8 that’s backed by a Tremec TKO five-speed manual transmission. The engine has electronic throttle control and exhales through long-tube headers that flow into Dynomax mufflers. There’s also a thick aluminum radiator with a pair of electric cooling fans. The seller notes the engine “fires right up” and runs well, with no smoke or leaks. Likewise, the Tremec transmission reportedly shifts “great.” Additional drivetrain components, per the photos, include a 9-inch rear axle.

EXTERIOR

From every angle, it’s clear the exterior of this classic Camaro has been updated with numerous custom touches, including a shaved front bumper, RS grille, cowl-induction hood, LED taillights, racing-style gas door, aftermarket door handles, second-generation mirrors and more. The car is also said to be “rust-free” and the seller says the black paint is a “9 out of 10,” with no blemishes. The convertible top is reportedly in “like new” condition and the same reportedly goes for all the glass and seals. All the exterior lighting reportedly works.

INTERIOR

The cockpit of this Camaro is even more modified than the exterior. It has been transformed into a two-seater, with a custom enclosure behind the seats that includes storage compartments and houses elements of the sound system. There’s also a custom center console, custom-trimmed door panels, aftermarket steering wheel, aftermarket pedals, and aftermarket performance seats trimmed in black leather. The original gauges have been updated with Dakota Digital instruments that work with the electronic powertrain control system. The head unit for the audio system is a Kenwood touchscreen, mounted in a modified housing in the dashboard. All the elements are said to be in “excellent” condition, with little or no apparent wear. There are no reported issues with any of the power accessories and the car’s air conditioning system is said to blow cold.

CHASSIS

According to the seller, the chassis, suspension, and braking elements have been comprehensively upgraded, including a Detroit Speed front end with coilovers and rack-and-pinion steering, along with coilovers in the rear. There’s also a Baer “big brake” system and the car rolls on 18-inch Forgeline aluminum wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport rubber, 245/40ZR18 in front and 315/30ZR18 in the rear. The tires show 2010 DOT date codes, so they should be replaced before the car is driven any distance. There are no reported vibrations or other driving issues with this restomod F-body.
